39 weeks...there's light at the end of the tunnel!

We are at 39 weeks and I'm sooooooooooooo ready to have this baby born!!!  I don't think my skin can stretch any farther!!  There's not a whole lot to say about this week.  The baby has fully matured and we are just waiting for those contractions.  I have a few contractions each day, but nothing regular or too intense.  At our doctor appointment this week, we were a little disappointed when he said I was still 1 cm dilated...no progress from last week.  At our appointment next week, we have to come with a day in mind for induction.  I say the sooner the better!!  We will keep everyone informed on when that day ends up being or if I go into labor beforehand!  This is a picture of me in my scrubs that I wear at one of my work sites.  Everyone gets a kick out of my belly in the scrubs!  The top is getting tighter as the weeks go on!  I must say, this pregnancy has been a great conversation piece with each patient.  There will be many things I miss about being pregnant, but overall I'm ready for the little guy to be born :)

38 weeks..and I'm ready to go!!

38 weeks and I'm praying this little boy comes sooner than later!!  This week's picture is in our parking lot, right as we were headed to our car to go to our doctor's appointment.  Thank goodness for work (I never thought I'd say that!)...it takes my mind off my aches and pains during the day and then I'm uncomfortable the second I get home and sit on the couch!  I definitely try to keep myself busy.  Any advice for back aches would be much appreciated!  Brian tells me I'm doing really well with not complaining...he might just be being nice :)

Dr. appt today went well.  Baby's heart rate was 140 bpm.  I was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced.  He told us we are making progress and to not be discouraged!  Our next appointment is Wednesday, July 27th at 3:15.  Expect another update following that appointment!

Baby Facts:
Baby Pete is still the size of a watermelon (I think that will be the largest fruit used!).  He is averaging about 7 pounds and 21 inches long.  He is working at shedding the hair on his skin, lanugo, and producing more surfactant to prevent the air sacs in his lungs from sticking together when he beings breathing on his own.

Another birthday to mention...HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Steve Petersen, Brian's dad!!  He turned 51 today!!!!

Hopefully Baby Pete will be born in July so he can join all of the July babies in our family -- Brian, Me, Lindsay (obviously), my dad, Casey (my niece), Brian's mom, and Brian's dad!!!  Hope I didn't leave anyone out!

Have a great rest of the week!  Love, The Petersens

37 Weeks and 3 to go!

3 weeks left until the due date!  Hard to believe!  Notice Brian in the mirror of this picture giving everyone a thumbs up!  I am really late at getting this week's post up!  I had my first full week of work and I am putting in some LONG days!  It has been great so far and I'm learning a lot!  I also got my first real paycheck this past Friday, so Brian and I had to go out to dinner last night to celebrate!  Brian is getting anxious to get back to work.  He was in his classroom this week getting things ready to go for this upcoming year.  He has 2 more weeks of freedom!  He is curious what this year's class will be like.

Our last doctor appointment went really well.  Baby's heartbeat was a strong 145 bpm.  Last week I was 30% effaced and this week I was a fingertip dilated!  The trend in the Bormann family is to stay a fingertip dilated until they have to induce, but I'm hoping to break that trend!!  The relaxin hormone is kicking in and all my upper leg/groin muscles are very sore!  I am definitely developing a waddle!  Our next appointment is Wednesday, July 20th.  I will do my best to get the blog updated following that appointment!!

Baby Facts:
Baby Pete is now the size of a watermelon...whoa!  He is now considered "full-term," which is music to my ears!!  He is averaging about 6 1/2 pounds and is gaining about a half pound per week.  His length is about 21 inches long.  He is continuing to put on fat all around his body.  He is also practicing: inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid, sucking on his thumb, blinking, and pivoting from side to side.

PS...
A BIG Happy Birthday to Brian's mom, Glori, she turned 50 years old yesterday!!!  We wish we could have been there to celebrate with you ;)

Have a great weekend everyone and I will write again on Wednesday!!

36 weeks...only 4 left!

We had our 36 week appointment this afternoon and I am 30% effaced (not dilated).  Baby is still head down and rear end up.  His heart rate was right at 150 bpm.  Everything is still looking good so far!  I'm starting to get more and more uncomfortable as the weeks progress.  Finding a comfortable position at night is my biggest challenge!  My residency has officially started and I'm LOVING it so far!!  It's nice to be out of the house during the day because it takes my mind off the pregnancy and I tend to forget about how uncomfortable I am.  Brian is enjoying his summer so far - he goes back to work August 1st (which unfortunately is our due date) - he is praying the baby decides to come early!

Funny story: We were in Target last week and a little girl (maybe 3 or 4 years old) pointed at me and said "fat belly" really loud.  Her mother was really embarrassed and apologetic even though I didn't mind.  Her mom tried to explain to her that I was going to be having a baby.  It was pretty cute!

Baby Facts:
Not much new to talk about here.  He is still the size of a honey dew and his job right now is to simply gain weight.  According to online and book sources he is about 6 lbs and 20 3/4 inches long.  We will see how accurate these estimations are when he actually comes!

Have a great rest of the week!  I will send out another update next Wednesday after our next appointment!  Brian & Megan

35 weeks...5 left!

5 more weeks seems so crazy and not far off at all!!  I start my residency this coming friday, so I will be staying busy (in the air conditioning - thank goodness!) and hopefully that will take my mind off the pregnancy a little bit.  Brian and I are both very anxious to meet our little one, but know that he will come when he is ready.  We hope he is ready around July 25th or so :)  We had a wonderful time in Iowa and hopefully we will be able to go back in December for Christmas.

Baby Facts:
Baby Pete is still the size of a honeydew, weighing in at about 5 1/2 pounds and measuring 20 1/4 inches long.  He has pretty much reached his full length and is now just packing on the pounds.  One of my sources says he will gain about 1 more pound of fat before delivery.  He is currently about 15% body fat and will reach about 30% by his delivery.  At our last doctor appointment on June 23rd, his body position was head down and butt up.  He has been in that same position for the last 3 appointments so hopefully he will remain in that position.

He is still moving around and kicking like crazy!  No shots to the ribs yet (I'm keeping my fingers crossed!).  I have had one Braxton-Hicks contraction, but that was about 2 weeks ago.  Our next appointment with Dr. Tinker is Wednesday, July 6th - we then start seeing him every week.  I will update the blog every Wednesday evening from now on after each of my appointments.  Also, the swelling in my feet, ankles, and fingers has gone down!!  I am able to wear my wedding ring again and my sandals don't leave strap marks across my feet!!  Woohoo!!

Have a great week!  Love, Brian & Megan
